The Great Wall of Sheridan

A grand opening that included tours, lunch and a ribbon cutting was held Friday for the Sheridan Hillslide Stabilization project that is adjacent to Sheridan Junior High School and Kendrick Park. City Engineer Hanns Mercer talks about the project undertaking.

Mercer said that the $8.2 million project reached substantial completion late last month and explained how it was funded.

Mercer said for such a large and specialized project, the timeline was very tight and took a lot of coordination and teamwork to accomplish it on time.

Mercer said the only part of these walls you can see is the sculpted shotcrete face. Shotcrete is concrete that is shot out of a hose, and after it is sprayed onto a surface it can be sculpted, textured, and stained to maintain the look of the surrounding environment or for decorative purposes.

    Nice job by the city (Mercer). City should be proud. Might be prudent to install cameras to catch Banksy wanna be painters. Given today’s activist environment it almost seems inevitable.
