Pat BlairStarting Friday and continuing through Monday, the Labor Day weekend, additional law enforcement personnel will be on duty in Sheridan County, and they will show zero tolerance for drunk driving.
Sheridan Police Chief Rich Adriaens said drunk driving is a serious problem in our country. According to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, over 10,500 people were killed nationwide in drunk-driving crashes in 2018, and on average 10,000 people were killed every year from 2014 to 2018.
Sheridan County police, county sheriff’s officials and state troopers recommend that even if you’ve had only one alcoholic beverage, designate a sober driver or plan to use public transportation, taxi or ride-sharing service to get home safely.
If your friend has been drinking, take the keys away and plan a safe way to get him or her home. Also, those who see a drunk driver on the road are asked to contact Sheridan county law enforcement or call 911.
