Pat BlairLong before all precincts had reported Tuesday night, the Associated Press declared Lummis the Republican party’s nominee for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by the retirement of Mike Enzi.
Numbers posted on the Casper Star Tribune website gave Lummis just over 38 percent of the Republican votes by around 8:30 p.m., followed by Robert Short with just under 38 percent.
According to the AP, Merav Ben-David, a University of Wyoming ecology professor and climate activist, won the Democratic nomination for the seat.
Sheridan County voters gave Lummis over 3,700 votes to carry the Republican primary. Next largest number of votes, just under 1,500, went to Sheridan resident Bryan Miller. Short received a little over 530 votes here.
Leader on the Democratic ballot in Sheridan County was Ben-David with 545 votes.
