County Natural Resource Management Plan Ready for Review

Johnson County’s draft Natural Resource Management Plan is completed and is available for review and public comment.

According to a release from the Johnson County Commissioners, they along with a steering committee, have developed the plan as a tool which allows a local government to have a substantive impact on federal decisions, plans, policies, and programs.

Federal agencies consideration of a local natural resource management plan, or resource plan, can play a key role in the success of a local government engaging as a cooperative agency or with consistency review under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), coordination under the Federal Lands Policy and Management Act (FLPMA), or National Forest Management Act (NFMA) as well as assisting in the Governor’s consistency review.

The Draft Johnson County Natural Resource Management Plan can be viewed on the county website and hard copies are also available at the County Clerk’s Office, Clear Creek Conservation District Office, Powder River Conservation District Office, the Johnson County Library, and the County Commissioner’s Office.

Public meetings have been scheduled to collect public input and provide information about the purpose and intent of the plan.

The meetings will be held on Tuesday, September 1st in Kaycee from 10am to noon at the Red Wall Community Center’s Old Library Meeting Room at 201 Center Street; and in Buffalo from 4 to 6pm at the Bomber Mountain Civic Center Gym at 63 N. Burritt.

The public comment period will be open for 30-days from Monday August 17th through Wednesday September 16th.
