State Health Officer on Reopening Schools

Wyoming State Health Officer Dr. Alexia Harrist discussed the reopening of schools during a news conference Wednesday. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
All of the school districts in Wyoming have submitted their Smart Start Plans to the Department of Education. While a decision or announcement on those plans has yet to be made by the Department of Education, State Health Officer Dr. Alexia Harrist discussed the importance of having students in the classroom this year.
Dr. Harrist said that there will unfortunately be cases of COVID-19 among students when schools reopen, but that following their common sense recommendations can help keep the numbers lower, and more manageable. Dr. Harrist added that it is imperative that parents contact their healthcare providers about testing if their child has symptoms that could be COVID-19.
