Sheridan Woman Receives Prison Sentence for Multiple Felonies

A 32-year-old Sheridan woman was sentenced to prison Tuesday in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan for a number of felonies. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
Pursuant to terms of a plea agreement reached with the State, District Court Judge John Fenn sentenced Jeanette Godwin to 3 to 5 years in prison for the charges of Felony Burglary and Felony Theft. The charges stem from an incident on November 18 of last year when Godwin entered a home in Sheridan County and stole a check that she later cashed in the amount of $11,000 after she forged the name of the account holder. Godwin was also sentenced to 3 to 5 years on three unrelated Felony Forgery charges, suspended in lieu of three years of supervised probation following her release from prison on the burglary and theft convictions.
The forgeries occurred between December 18 of last year and January 2nd of this year, when Godwin redeposited, or cashed for a second time, three checks from a local construction company’s checking account. Judge Fenn ordered Godwin to pay $1,145 in various court costs and fees and a total of $12,343 in restitution.
