Casper Resident Arraigned in District Court in Sheridan

An arraignment hearing was held virtually Tuesday in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan for 18-year-old Russell Jones of Casper. Jones was arrested and charged with Felony Wrongful Taking or Disposing of Property on June 12 in Sheridan for allegedly receiving a 2006 black Chevrolet pickup that had been reported stolen out of Bar Nunn, Wyoming. Jones and a co-defendant were arrested after law enforcement spotted the vehicle in the parking lot of a convenience store on Brundage Lane. Jones told law enforcement that their intention was to dispose of the vehicle by abandoning it in Sheridan at the convenience store. The vehicle was reported as stolen the day prior, on June 11.
Jones pleaded “not guilty” to the charge in District Court Tuesday. District Court Judge John Fenn set the two-day trial to begin December 14 and scheduled a pretrial conference for November 12 at 11 am. The crime of Wrongful Taking or Disposing of Property is a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
