SCLT working to conserve the history of everyday Sheridan families
Sheridan Community Land Trust is working to conserve the history of Sheridan and its residents and is asking for the public’s help.
History Program Manager Kevin Knapp organizes one of SCLT’s most popular programs and, as 2026 begins, sees a bright future in local history.
SCLT is a 501(c)(3) organization that works to conserve land, recreation and history. One of its most popular offerings is the Explore History program.
Explore History provides presentations, tours and guest speakers on a variety of topics, while also inviting community members to take part in gathering and preserving local history.
Knapp said the popularity of the program can be credited to more than well-crafted presentations. It is the people in attendance who add to the stories, provide context and often help shape future topics.

SCLT is now asking the public to share these often overlooked pieces of history through a new program, Telling Our Stories, an SCLT oral history project. The volunteer-driven effort works to record the lives and experiences of people in Sheridan County.
If you would like to take part, help collect stories or know of someone whose story should be told, contact Knapp by emailing History@SheridanCLT.org.
