The Museum at the Bighorns will welcome families into the new year with a free Family Day event from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Jan. 2, offering hands-on activities designed to engage children and parents in learning about the region’s natural and cultural history.

Kids and families will be able to explore interactive stations featuring animals from the High Plains and surrounding mountains, with a focus on diet differences and how species adapt to their environments. The Sheridan and Johnson County chapter of the Wyoming Archaeological Society and SWCA Environmental Consultants will partner with the museum to provide “Digging into History” boxes, educational artifacts, grinding slabs, and coloring activities.

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Museum at the Bighorns Executive Director Carrie Edinger said the event will offer plenty of fun learning opportunities for kids while families become familiar with the museum’s new space.

The Museum at the Bighorns will also feature a Champsosaurus puzzle and share information about a future partnership tied to an upcoming environmental history exhibit.

Family Day is generously supported by the Perkins Foundation, helping make the event accessible to families across the region.
