Sheridan College Science Center Renovation Work Funding Not Included In 2026 Budget Recommendation
Renovation work on one of Sheridan College’s oldest buildings might not get financial support from the Wyoming Legislature again.
At the College’s recent Board of Trustees meeting, College President Dr. Walter Tribley expressed his disappointment that Governor Mark Gordon did not recommend money for the college, in the capital construction portion of his budget recommendation.
The College’s Science Center dates back to the 1980’s, and Dr. Tribley says work would cost about $27 million to renovate the building.
Of that amount, about 45% has been secured through local funds.
Dr. Tribley adds the price tag isn’t going to get any cheaper if the project keeps stalling.
“I do hope that our local elected officials take that into account and push back and try to get that in the final budget. We need the building, we need the jobs, it’s good for Wyoming, it’s good for Sheridan and certainly we’ve done our part here to raise our piece of the money. We have had it for 2 years now. The cost of that project is just going up. It’s not efficient to kick this can down the road. Let’s get it built, let’s get it done.”
House Bill 258, which died in committee in this year’s Legislative General Session, could have provided up to $10 million in funding for the renovation project.
The 2026 4-week Legislative Budget Session is scheduled to begin on February 9th.
