As many downtown Sheridan Main Street businesses begin to move into the black financially for the Holiday season, one thing they are thankful for, is that this past summer did not have any orange in it.

This year marked the first time in 3 years that there was no construction on Main Street.

WYDOT and City of Sheridan officials say the work had to be done, because the concrete, as well as a number of water and sewer pipes, had outlived its usefulness, and needed to be replaced.

Kim Franzman, who owns Kid Curious, says drawing in customers during the past 2 summers required some publicity.

“We definitely made our backdoor access one of the key things and people are still using that to this day, so I think it’s been a good strategy for us and then just trying to keep our name and recognition out there in front of people’s minds, reminding them that we’re down here. A lot of people quit coming downtown through the construction, so it’s just kind of a reminder of, ‘Ok, we’re open, we’re here, come check us out.’”

With construction out of the way, Franzman says new challenges have popped up this year.

“There’s been tariffs and still some shipping things and price inflation which has affected everybody, businesses aren’t excluded from that and so we just appreciate the customers that still come down and support, even with all of that happening.”

Franzman adds the Holiday Stroll weekend is usually a good indicator on how the year is going to end sales-wise.
