Pretrial Conference Held in District Court for Sheridan Woman Charged With Multiple Felonies

A trial remains scheduled for next month in Fourth Judicial District Court for a Sheridan woman charged with multiple felonies. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
At an arraignment hearing on March 4, Treva Adams entered pleas of not guilty to the charges of felony endangering children for knowingly being in possession of methamphetamine with a child present; felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine; felony possession of a controlled substance – cocaine, and misdemeanor possession or use of a firearm for being in possession of a firearm with a previous non-violent felony conviction. Adams was arrested and charged with the crimes this past January.
At a pretrial conference Tuesday in District Court, Deputy Sheridan County and Prosecuting Attorney Christopher LaRosa’s request to have a witness from the State Crime Lab testify by video at trial was granted by the Court after Adams offered no objection to the request.
A three-day jury trial remains scheduled for July 14 unless a plea agreement can be reached between Adams and the State. If convicted on all counts, Adams faces over 17 years in prison and fines of over $25,000. According to court documents, Adams arrest was the result of a report that was called into the Sheridan Police Department about Adams being in possession of methamphetamine and a firearm. A search warrant executed by law enforcement at Adams’ residence yielded the drugs and the firearm.

A 50-year-old Sheridan man changed his plea on a drug related charge Tuesday in Fourth Judicial District Court. Pursuant to a plea agreement that was reached with the State, Vernon Woods pleaded guilty to the charge of felony delivery of a controlled substance – hydrocodone. The plea agreement recommends a prison sentence of 2 to 5 years, suspended in favor of three years of supervised probation. The plea agreement is non binding, meaning the Court can reject the plea deal at sentencing and the defendant would be unable to withdraw his guilty plea. Woods was arrested for the crime by the Sheridan Police Department following a traffic stop that occurred on North Main Street on February 5.
District Court Judge Darci Phillips ordered that a presentence investigation be completed by the Department of Corrections Division of Probation and Parole and scheduled sentencing for August 21 at 9 am. Woods’ bond was continued under the same terms and conditions that were previously set in Circuit Court.
