Sheridan Memorial Hospital Chief Development Officer Cody Sinclair, Director of Philanthropy Liz Dearcorn and Director of Donor Relations Ada Kirven made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to discuss the progress of the “Growing for You” campaign, helmed by the Foundation.

Kirven said it was in 1976 that a group of volunteer trustees came together to form the Foundation. Since that time the Foundation has raised funds to support Sheridan Memorial Hospital’s mission. Funds raised from individual residents, corporate partners and foundation gifts and grants enable the Foundation to financially assist Sheridan Memorial Hospital with strategic and vital healthcare projects needed in the community. Kirven said there are a few different reasons the fundraising of the Foundation have worked well in the past, but it always comes down to the mission and the team involved.

The most recent effort by the Foundation is the “Growing for You” campaign. This campaign has been and continues to raise funds for an ambitious project that hopes to change the mental health environment of the Sheridan Region. SMH is currently in phase two of a three phase plan to develop a system of care in Sheridan County to ensure those struggling with mental health have a place to go to get the help they need.

The need to address mental health was brought to SMH from the community in the results of a survey. The efforts and funds for this project have come in from donors in all walks of life in Sheridan County and throughout the Cowboy State.

The cost to build a new wing dedicated to mental health was too high to make a reality. Leadership chose to use existing space and the results have been beneficial as the relocation of other departments has provided a time to upgrade and improve efficiency as a positive side effect.

Due to the economic climate, the campaign goal has been forced to adjust. Originally estimated to be $15 million, costs have increased to adjust for recent inflation to approximately $18 million.

Through the generosity of donors and many volunteer hours the Foundation has secured all but approximately $900K. With efforts in full force, the Foundation is hopeful that the deficit will be filled by the end of the year.
