Whitney Benefits owns and maintains the Whitney Commons, a community park open for public use.

Coordinator Janet Barnes and Whitney Commons Maintenance Lead Dave Sanders made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to discuss the Whitney Commons, a public space that assists in fulfilling the ideals set by Edward Whitney.

The area consists of large opens spaces as well as the spray grounds, the pavilion, the west park, the east park, the Dorothy King Reflective Garden, Patriot Park and many statues.

Designed to be a welcoming space for everyone, the parks are maintained by a small but dedicated team, led by Sanders.

According to Barnes, there have been over 90 events with reservations in the park so far in 2024. Whitney Commons is on track to exceed the recorded 130 events held in 2023, the highest in the park’s history.

There is no fee to reserve the park but a reservation request form completed at least a week in advance of the proposed event is required. All set up and event cleanup is the responsibility of the party making the reservation.
