Cap Tax List Discussed at Council Study Session

The Sheridan City Council study session Monday night centered around project lists for the Capital Facilities Tax. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
The Council discussed a number possible projects that would be part of a list of projects that the City would ultimately submit to Sheridan County in June. Councilman Thayer Shafer talked about the importance of infrastructure related projects on the list.
Mayor Roger Miller voiced his agreement with Councilman Shafer on prioritizing infrastructure type projects.
In July after all of the entities have submitted their list of projects and dollar amounts associated with those projects, a resolution approving the proposition must be signed off on by the Sheridan County Commissioners and at least two-thirds of the governing bodies of the incorporated municipalities within Sheridan County. Renewal of the Capital Facilities Tax will be on the ballot in November.

Is there ever a discussion about the benefits of getting rid of this tax and allowing people to keep more of their own money? More money in our pockets will allow us to to do our own much needed projects like home and car repair. Does anyone ever defend the over-burdened tax-PAYER? Lower taxes would grow our local economy. With a lower rate we’d all have more of our own money to spend. That would spur the economy, which in turn, generates more total tax revenue. Lower tax rates work. Under presidents, Coolidge, Kennedy, Reagan and now Trump, tax rates were cut and the economy grew. We should learn from our history. Lower taxes grow the economy. Lower taxes are good for everyone….except the few politicians who get to spend our money and the few “connected cronies” who get the loot, in exchange for votes.
