Ron RichterA settlement and release agreement between the City of Sheridan and Karo Hamilton was an item of discussion at Monday night’s City Council study session. Hamilton is the homeowner of the residence at 1050 North Sheridan Avenue that was demolished during the armed standoff in February of this year. Since that time, the City has worked with Hamilton and her legal counsel to remedy the situation. To date, the City has waived and/or paid approximately $27,000 in fees and demo costs associated with the property on Sheridan Avenue.
An estimate through Hamilton’s general contractor, Battle Scarred Services, to build a new home with the same square footage as the former structure came in at $490,518.20. The settlement and release agreement between the City and Hamilton that was discussed Monday night is for $250,000 to be paid to the Wyoming Community Development Authority for the cost and construction of a new home for Hamilton.
Hamilton’s insurance has paid a total of $217,000 that will be used for the construction of a new home. City Attorney Brad Thimmesch said the agreement also fully discharges and releases the City, Sheridan Police Department, Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office, and any other Wyoming governmental entity from any and all claims arising from the events that occurred in February.
The settlement agreement must be approved by the City Council at an upcoming regularly scheduled business meeting.

$490K to build a new house? Seems a little excessive. There are many new builds, with lots, and more square footage for sale on the mls for $400k-$460k.
