Sheridan County Snowpack Near Median

The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service Sheridan Field Office released the latest snowpack report for Sheridan County Wednesday. According to the report, as of April 1, Sheridan County snowpack snow water content is near median with snowpack water content ranges from 89 percent to 146 percent of median across the eastern Bighorn Mountains. The numbers do not include the latest snow that has fallen in the area. The report shows that the Tongue River drainage snow water is just above median, at 105 percent, while the entire Powder River Basin, including the Clear Creek drainage, is marginally higher at 114 percent of median based on snotel data in the basin.

Tongue River and Powder River watersheds both have higher snowpack water content than this time last year, with the percent of last year values at 135 percent and 128 percent respectively. Snotel data indicates that most river basins across the state were near or above median on April 1st. The Lower North Platte River basin is the highest in the state at 124 percent of median, while the Sweetwater River Basin is the lowest of median values in the state at 75 percent of median. Snotel data in the report was current on April 1, and manual snow course data included in the report was collected March 26 through the 30.
