The snow travel season within Yellowstone National Park is nearing its end and the park will soon prepare for the return of regular motor vehicle traffic.

The road from Mammoth Hot Springs to Norris closed to snowmobile and snow coach traffic this past Sunday (March 3rd), and three other roads will close on Tuesday, March 5th.

Those roads are from Norris to Madison, Norris to Canyon Village and from Canyon Village to Washburn Hot Springs.

The road from Canyon Village to Fishing Bridge will close on Sunday, March 10th, and all other groomed roads, including the West, South and East Entrances to the park will close on March 15th.

Once closed, snowplow crews will start clearing snow off of those highways

The roads connecting the North to the Northeast entrances of the park remain open year round.

A park spokes-person says due to the limited snowfall that the park received in December and January, the 2023-2024 winter season was challenging for the park and oversnow operators.

The Park is scheduled to open the west entrance, as well as roads from Mammoth Hot Springs to Old Faithful and from Norris Junction to Canyon Village to motor vehicle traffic on April 19th.

The East entrance is scheduled to open on May 3rd and the South entrance on May 10th.
