Crago on Gap in Senate, House Budgets

State Representative Barry Crago (R-House District 40) is in Cheyenne for the 2024 Legislative Budget Session and will be talking with Sheridan Media during the weeks he is in session.
There is currently a gap of roughly $900 million in the two budget proposals from the Wyoming Senate and the House, and representatives from both chambers will convene in a joint conference committee this week to work out their differences.
Representative Crago said that there were items in the House Budget that were not in the Senate’s version.
Crago explained that there were three big items the House put in their budget, which are the Veterans Home of Wyoming rebuild in Buffalo; the expenditures for the razing of the Wyoming Girls School located in Sheridan, saying both needed to happen right away; and $40 million in funding for the Suicide Hotline Trust Fund.
There were some other smaller items in the $147 million that the House added to the budget, according to Crago.
Crago said he is happy the House added those items to their budget, but they will now have to try to convince the conference committee that the items are needed and worthy of funding.
We will have more from our conversation with Representative Crago in upcoming stories.
