The Advocacy and Resource Center’s 7th annual fundraising event Love Shouldn’t Hurt 2024 featuring The Fun Pianos dueling pianos and food by Bino’s will be held at the Kalif Shrine Center beginning at 6 p.m. Feb. 16.

Love Shouldn’t Hurt is a vital fundraiser for the Sheridan Advocacy and Resource Center. Executive Director Yvonne Swanson and her team rescue and aid victims of domestic abuse. They also advise victims of violent crime. They are advocates for anyone who may feel they do not have voice in the legal system.

They are also educators and advisors for anyone who may feel lost in that system. Advocacy team members organize and hold assemblies in specific Sheridan schools, teaching teens about teen dating violence, their rights as people and how to identify and seek help from mental and emotional abuse of a partner.

Love Shouldn’t Hurt raises funds that are used by the center to get basic but vital resources to the victims of domestic violence they support. Often, victims of domestic violence must flee their abuser without the opportunity to gather essential needs such as clothing and hygiene products. Many of these victims must flee with their children and often have no place to go but the Resource Center.

According to Swanson, her team accomplishes tough goals and stressful situations on a daily basis at the Resource Center, so the fundraiser is geared toward having fun and embracing the ideals of healthy relationships. She and her team are inviting the community to celebrate together while raising these critical funds to support those in crisis.
