County Planner Gives Year-End Report to Commission

Johnson County Planner Jim Waller gave his end-of-year report on his office to the county commission during their lasting.
Waller gave an overall view of happenings in the county from a planning standpoint.
Waller said there have been new homes built in county subdivisions in the last four years, and the numbers have remained consistent.
He said 11 homes were built in the Cross 3 Subdivision; 12 in the Emerald Park Subdivision; and 11 in the Shores at Lake DeSmet Subdivision, making up the “big three” for building in recent years.
Data he provided showed the county grew by 300 to 400 people in 2023 for an estimated population of just under 9,000 people.
Although he is seeing inquiries concerning minor subdivisions he currently has no active subdivision applications.
Waller said the city and county are experiencing very similar trends, according to the data.
