The Museum at the Bighorns has announced plans to relocate to the historic Woolworth building at 171 North Main Str., in downtown Sheridan.
Executive Director Dani Stuckle said the Museum made an appearance on Sheridan Meida’s Public Pulse to discuss what prompted leadership to make the decision to relocate the museum to the heart of downtown Sheridan.
Currently located at 850 Sibley Circle, near the off-ramp of Interstate 90, Stuckle said when she first arrived a little over a year ago she believed this location was ideal for visitors. But as she evaluated both car and foot traffic, she felt a new location downtown would better serve the museum and the community. When the Woolworth building became an available option, leadership took a close look and found with a little work, the location would be ideal.

The move will be a lot of work, scheduled to open in the Spring of 2025, preparations have already begun. According to Stuckle, staff are taking inventory of the 30,000 items entrusted to the museum and ensuring paperwork is in order for each item.
Further plans include construction of exhibits with help from a firm, extensive remodeling of HVAC and humidity control, display and panel graphic design and more. Stuckle said the museum would like to focus on developing a hands-on, interactive Sheridan history experience.
Stuckle said hard work and a little luck have played their parts so far in finding the location that she feels will benefit not only the museum but all of downtown Sheridan.
