Ron RichterA trial date was set in Fourth Judicial District Court his week for a 48-year-old Sheridan man charged with two counts of felony drug possession. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
At an arraignment hearing in District Court, Levi Wilcox pleaded not guilty to the charges of felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and felony possession of a controlled substance – marijuana. The charges are being prosecuted as felonies because Wilcox was convicted twice in 2014 for drug possession and the current charges would result in three or more drug possession convictions, which results in a felony in Wyoming.
District Court Judge Darci Phillips scheduled a #6 stack, three-day jury trial for April 15, 2024. The #6 stack means there are five other jury trials scheduled for that same date. A pretrial conference will take place March 19 at 10:30 am. According to court documents, Wilcox was arrested for the alleged crimes on November 15 after an anonymous reporting party called dispatch to report a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a motel on north Main Street in Sheridan. An officer with the Sheridan Police Department responded to the report, and shortly after arriving on scene, a search of Wilcox’s vehicle was conducted and the drugs were found inside the vehicle and Wilcox was placed under arrest. If convicted on both counts, Wilcox faces up to 10 years in prison and fines of up to $10,000.
