The Buffalo City Council has decided to review new information provided to them from Jerry Spiering on changes he is wanting to apply for an economic development grant.

Spiering had come before the council in November seeking approval to pursue a grant through the Wyoming Business Council to create an economic development plan which would help determine detailed housing needs to pursue attainable housing in thearea.

He had asked the council to approve him pursuing the grant and for the city and county to each fund the 25% match for the grant should it be awarded.

At this week’s council meeting, Spiering explained what he discovered when looking into other city’s applications and what he was asking of the council.

Last month the council had approved Spiering pursuing a grant for the housing needs assessment with the Johnson County Commission’s blessing an pledge to split the local match funding with the city.

Spiering asked the council this week to pledge the local match themselves for the higher gtant amount because the county is already moving forward with their own comprehensive plan update.

To get the proposed $100,000 grant, the city would need to contribute roughly $33,000 according to City Clerk Julie Silbernagel.

The council took no action but said they would read the proposal and discuss it at a later council meeting.
