Flood Watches Issued For Northeast Wyoming/Southeast Montana: August 3-5, 2023

An approaching weather system has potential to bring heavy rains in a short time to most of northeast Wyoming and southeast Montana.
The National Weather Service office in Billings, MT has issued a flood watch for Sheridan County and portions of southeast Montana.
This includes the cities and towns of Miles City, Baker, Broadus, Ekalaka, Lame Deer, Pryor, Lodge Grass, and Fort Smith.
The watch is in effect from noon Thursday (August 3rd) until late Friday evening.
Elsewhere, the National Weather Service office in Riverton has issued a flood watch for all of Johnson County.
The watch is in effect from 6am Thursday until 6pm Saturday.
The National Weather Service office in Rapid City, SD, has issued a flood watch for all of Campbell, Crook and Weston Counties.
Those watches are in effect from noon Thursday, until 6pm Saturday.
Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible and excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, streams and other low-lying and flood prone locations.
The Weather Service adds rainfall rates of up to 5 inches an hour is possible in some areas.
Residents should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.
