Pehringer Gives History of Mikesell-Potts Area

In their recent year-end report to the Johnson County Commission, Road & Bridge Supervisor Scott Pehringer gave a brief history of the Mikesell-Potts Recreation Area at Lake DeSmet.
Pehringer said there was a lot of activity in the area during the 1970’s as Texaco and Reynolds Aluminum discussed different developments at the lake, which spawned the development of the recreation area.
Pehringer said Johnson County took over running the recreation area in 2014 and at that time their budget was $28,000 with about $13,000 taken in through camp fees.
It has grown significantly since then.
Pehringer said there are some exciting things that are happening at the lake, and the Road & Bridge Department takes a lot of pride in what they have accomplished at the recreation area.
