City of Sheridan Public Works Director Hanns Mercer presented details of the 2023 Hume Draw Watershed Assessment Project to members of the City Council and Mayor Rich Bridger at the study session. Mercer began by providing some background on how the City acquired Hume Draw.

Mercer said the project area is bound by Goose Creek, West 8th Street, West 5th Street, and Mydland Road, and also includes the Rotary Park pond at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds and the Alliance Lateral Ditch just north of the Alternate Elder Living on Shirley Cove. Mercer said the need for the assessment project is because the Hume Draw area, associated ponds, and connector streams are being inundated with algae, sediment, and invasive species that are impacting the water quality of Goose Creek.

Funding for the assessment project is a $35,000 grant from the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality and $13,500 from direct distribution. Staff is recommending the City Council award the bid for the project to Water and Environmental Technologies. The Council will consider the bid at an upcoming business meeting.
