While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, Executive Board Member AARP Volunteer Clarence Montano and Sheridan Community Action Team AARP Volunteer Jerry Edwards told listeners a little about the AARP Community Action Team.

The team is a group of Sheridan County residents that work to connect with Sheridan Region communities through fun, meaningful activities that make an impact.

These activities can range from hosting free movie nights, golf, baseball and hockey events to organizing large food drives to restock food pantries for many other organizations within the county.

Montano told listeners he joined because the group was active in the community, giving him something fun to do that served a greater purpose.

Although the recent pandemic slowed the organization down, Montano said they have bounced back and are looking to grow their numbers.

Recruited by Montano a few years ago, Edwards told listeners that the activities and causes the team works to support and host are not only far ranging, they are fun and fulfilling.

In its eighth year, the Souper Bowl is now in full swing. Sheridan-area residents can once again vote for their favorite team in a two-week non-perishable food drive for local food banks.
