Today we look back at Johnson County’s top stories during the last year as we focus on May and June of 2022.

COMPASS Center for Families CEO Susan Carr announced in May that she would step down in July from the administrative position, but stay with the organization in a different role.

Carr said Kassahn Mathson and Tifany Resser would be taking on the duties as co-directors for COMPASS.

The Johnson County School Board, during a meeting in May, announced the district’s Teacher of the Year,Christine Houseman.

Buffalo High School Principal Gib Ostheimer said she is responsible for bringing AP Biology to BHS, sponsors the S.A.V.E. (Students Against Violating the Earth) Club, sponsors the Teton Science Expedition, and every other year takes students on trips to foreign countries.

Ostheimer said she is a teacher that is truly respected by her students.

The 38th annual Buffalo Lions Club Lake DeSmet Fishing derby happened over the Memorial Day Weekend, but that was in question due to dwindling numbers of volunteers to help put the event on.

The Lions Club, along with most other organizations are having trouble finding people to join and contribute, which makes it difficult if not impossible to put on these types of events.

Johnson County’s Commissioners passed a Resolution in June to support Sheridan Memorial Hospital’s proposed Crisis Stabilization Unit that will serve both Sheridan and Johnson Counties.

Sheridan Memorial Hospital is planning to convert a portion of their facility into a 6-bed crisis stabilization unit, if approved, to be ready to accept patients in about two years.

In June Buffalo’s Ben Kirven was appointed by Governor Mark Gordon to replace Judge William J. Edelman as the Fourth District Court Judge for the Fourth Judicial District serving Johnson County.

Kirven’s appointment was effective July 5.

And those are the top stories in Johnson County in May and June of 2022.

We will have the top stories for the next few months tomorrow.
