The new Habitat for Humanity of the Eastern Bighorns, Sheridan, ReStore Donation and Retail Store held its ribbon cutting and grand opening on Saturday, Dec. 10.

Dan Alsup, director of marketing and development talked about the new building, saying the ReStore donation and retail store started on Sheridan Avenue, and from there they moved to Crook Street. Today the new building is on Fort Road and Alsup said that this building was great, and everyone is together in one space.

Alsup explained what Habitat for Humanity does,

He added that there are certain HUD guidelines that the future homeowner has to meet, and that the ‘sweat equity’ does not have to be on the home they will eventually own, but on any Habitat for Humanity home that is being built.

He said in Sheridan they have had zero defaults, and he said that there are many testimonials from the homeowners, about their new homes.

He said that being a homeowner adds stability to the family, and it’s building strength, ability and self-reliance through home ownership. Families are healthier, as the homes are newer and energy efficient. Home ownership is valuable not only to homeowners but to the community as well.

Alsup talked about the grand opening of the ReStore building, saying that over 100 people had come in on Saturday.

He also wanted to thank the National Guard members who volunteered to help on Saturday.

Marla Lewis, ReStore Manager, added that she was grateful and thankful to their staff, the volunteers and the contractors who helped on the new store. She added she was happy to see so many customers come through as well. The new ReStore Building is now located at 44 Fort Street in Sheridan, and hours are Monday – Saturday 9 to 5.
