National Police Week runs from May 15, through May 21.
In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
In a release, Sheridan Police Chief Travis Koltiska and the members of the SPD, wished to thank the community for the tremendous support they receive on a daily basis.
As a show of support and solidarity, residents and businesses who would like to display appreciation for law enforcement may pick up a free blue light bulb at the police department.
The blue light bulbs have been provided by the Wyoming Association of Sheriffs and Chief of Police to show community support for local law enforcement.
National Police Week is a collaborative effort of many organizations dedicated to honoring America’s law enforcement community.
