Of the many calls and complaints that the Sheridan Police Department handles everyday, one of the most frequent is trespassing.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, SPD Captain Tom Ringley told listeners that trespassing violations occur daily in the city. From incidents involving private residences to big box stores and even public parks and facilities, the owner, renter or manager of such locations has every right to ask someone to leave. Should that individual refuse to do so, the SPD may get involved.
Ringley went on to say that the SPD will not remove someone if the complaint is based upon the person’s creed, race or class. Ringley also informed the public that the officers are trained not to take sides in argument, their duty is to the law and to ensure altercations are being handled professionally with the intention of keeping the peace.
Trespass is covered by Wyoming State 6-3-303. Wyoming Title 6 can be found by clicking here.
