The first full month of the summer tourist season was one for the record books at Grand Teton National Park.

The park reports that there were 752,114 recreational visits in June 2021, making it the busiest on record.

That’s up 61% from last year (468,201) largely due to the covid pandemic going on at that time.

Compared to June 2019 (625,441), the June 2021 numbers are up 20%.

Park officials add that June camping in the park numbers are up 36%, compared to June 2019, while backcountry camping was up 73%.

Park staff are collecting data and conducting studies to better understand changing visitation trends in Grand Teton National Park.

Historically, July and August have been the busiest months of the year at the park.

Recent trends include increased visitation in the spring and fall.
