Summer may be winding down, but Fall activities at the Sheridan Recreation District have already begun to accept registrations.

Evidence for physical and mental health benefits of running have long been known. But there are techniques that make an individual a more efficient runner.

Learning how to run at a young age can lead to a lifetime habit that will benefit a child in the future. The Sheridan Recreation District is offering Fall Youth Cross Country Running for children grades 2nd – 5th. Kids in this age bracket are being invited to join the youth cross country team.

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, Sheridan Recreation District Director Seth Ulvestad explained the competition is fun, but it’s not the focus of the sport at a beginning level. Youth will be coached on form and having fun.

Practices are twice a week for approximately one month. Kids will run, play games, and learn drills that will test their endurance, and refine their running form.

Sign up in person at the Sheridan Recreation District office at 1579 Thorne-Rider Park,  or call 307-674-6421.

A fee of $30 and practices will be held 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. This program begins Aug. 22, at Thorne-Rider Park. For more information click here.
