WY Winter HS Sports Start This Week/ UW Football Going Bowling/UW Basketball 8-0

High School Sports – The Wyoming High School winter sports season starts this Thursday on the basketball court, the wrestling mat and in the pool.
The Sheridan boys and girls basketball teams will play in Riverton this Thursday, Friday and Saturday (December 9, 10 and 11) vs. Star Valley, Jackson and Riverton respectively.
The Broncs and Lady Broncs both finished 3rd at last season’s 4A State Tournament.
Big Horn will play various opponents on Friday and Saturday in Buffalo, while Tongue River will do the same at Lovell, and Arvada-Clearmont will play at a tournament in Upton.
The Sheridan wrestling team will host Worland this Thursday in a dual meet beginning at 5pm and then head to Powell for a 2-day tournament.
The Tongue River wrestling team will take on the Sheridan JV also on Thursday.
The Sheridan boys swimming and diving team start their season this Friday and Saturday competing at Laramie.
UW Basketball – The UW men’s basketball team is now 8-0 on the season thanks to a 79-58 win at home vs. McNeese State back on Saturday.
Hunter Maldonado led the scoring with 20 points.
Graham Ike had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Jeremiah Oden had a double-double as well, putting in 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
The Cowboys next play Wednesday at Arizona…tip off is scheduled for 8pm.
The next home game for the Pokes is this coming Saturday vs. Utah Valley.
Meanwhile the Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team lost on Friday at Gonzaga 54-47, dropping their record to 3-4 on the season.
The next game is this coming Sunday at home vs. North Dakota State…tip off is scheduled for 1pm.
UW Wrestling – The Cowboy Wrestling team finished tied for 4th with Northwestern at the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas, this past weekend, finishing behind Nebraska, Ohio State and Michigan.
The Poke wrestlers have this week off from competition and will host a home dual vs. Oklahoma State on Sunday, December 19th.
UW Cowboy Football – For the 4th time in the Craig Bohl era and the 4th time in 6 years, the Wyoming Cowboy Football Team is going bowling.
The 6-6 Pokes will play in the 2021 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise, Idaho on Tuesday, December 21st against the 7-6 Kent State Golden Flashes.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30pm Mountain Standard Time and the game will be televised on ESPN.
UW last played in the Potato Bowl in 2017, defeating Central Michigan 37-14.
The Pokes last bowl game appearance was in the 2019 Arizona Bowl, winning that game 38-17 vs. Georgia State.
This will be the first meeting between Wyoming and Kent State.
The Golden Flashes are the 2021 Mid-American Conference runner-ups, losing the conference championship game vs. Northern Illinois this past Friday.
Overall, UW is 10-5 vs. the MAC, while Kent State is 4-6 vs. the Mountain West Conference.
The Pokes are 8-8 in bowl games, while the Golden Flashes are 1-3, winning the 2019 Frisco Bowl vs. Utah State.
Denver Broncos Football – The Denver Broncos lost at Kansas City 22-9 to drop to 6-6 on the season. The Broncos outgained the Chiefs 404-267, but 3 turnovers, including a 75-yard pick-6 made the difference. Denver’s next game is this Sunday (December 12th) at home vs. Detroit. Kickoff is scheduled for 2pm.
Sheridan Hawks Hockey – The Sheridan Hawks lost both games on home ice vs. Bozeman this past weekend, 5-1 and 7-3.
The Hawks are home again this weekend vs. the Badlands Sabres out of Rapid City.
