Sheridan Maverick/Lady Maverick Lacrosse: While the state events for soccer, track and field and softball start one week from tomorrow, the Montana Lacrosse League will play its championship this weekend, and both Sheridan teams will compete in it.
The Lady Mavericks are 5-4 on the season and are last year’s JV champs.
Last year’s championship was a 4-team event, and this year there’s only 3 teams.
Hailey Harding is a senior from Sheridan High School.
She says despite the fact of the main problem of the team trying to have enough players and a few extra to sub in and out, this year has gone pretty well.
As for the Mavericks, even though they are winless on the season, the team will also compete in the league championship.
Both the boys and girls are still waiting for the tournament schedule.
The tournament will be played at Bozeman.
Sheridan HS Softball: This is the first year for a regional tournament for the sport in Wyoming.
In the past 4 years when there were fewer teams and it was an east-west format, the top 4 teams on each side at the end of the regular season, would advance to the state tournament and be seeded based on which place they finished in.
This year, there are 8-teams in both the north and the south and just like regional tournaments for other sports, the top 4 will emerge and qualify for next weekend’s state tournament.
Junior Akuwin Atter is from Buffalo and plays for Sheridan.
She says in just the first year of existence, the Lady Broncs have come a long way and the team is getting the attention that comes with it.
Sheridan will play in the North Regional Tournament which is this coming Friday and Saturday in Casper.
The Lady Broncs will play their first round game at 11am Friday vs. Natrona County.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies lost their second straight game at Texas last night, by a score of 4-1.
The 3-game series concludes today starting at 6:05pm.
Denver Nuggets Basketball/NBA Playoffs: The Denver Nuggets wasted a 44 point effort by Nikola Jokic and lost last night in Game 5 of their best of 7 western conference semi-final series at Oklahoma City 112-105.
The Nuggets trail in the series 3-2.
Game 6 will be played tomorrow at Denver.
If a Game 7 is needed, it would be played on Sunday at Oklahoma City.
Elsewhere in the NBA Playoffs last night, Indiana eliminated East top seed Cleveland in 5 games, winning on the road by a score of 114-105.
NHL Playoffs: There was only 1 game last night, and Dallas would defeat west top seed Winnipeg 3-1, and take a 3-1 lead in the series.
