The Sheridan Mavericks lacrosse team will play their lone home games of the season this weekend.

The team is scheduled to host Cody on Friday (April 18th) at 7pm, and Missoula, Montana on Saturday at 9am, at the old Normative Services facility

The Mavericks are off to an 0-4 start so far, partially due to injuries and other commitments.

Head Coach J.R. Wright says some of those players are returning this week, which is good since the boys are going up against the only other Wyoming team in the Montana Lacrosse League.

“We’ve got a lot of our guys coming back, but we’ve had a couple more fall off here over the last couple of weeks and anytime we’re playing Cody here at home, it’s a big game, it’s a rivalry game, or course the boys like to think it is and we have made pretty good competition and good friends with those guys, and so it’s enjoyable to play them all the time and so I think they’re just focused on getting back into all the basics and running our offense and running our scheme and things will turn out just fine I’m sure, with the guys coming back this week.”

Cody is last year’s Montana lacrosse state runners-up, beat the Mavs in Sheridan this time last year, beat them again in the first round of the state tournament, and 2 weeks ago.

Coach Wright says Sheridan and Cody don’t rival or play much in other sports, but the Mavericks are motivated.

“Those guys haven’t forgotten about it and neither have I and we’re coming. We’re getting better every single week. Really really proud of how we played even with so short sighted, with such a short bench. To be quite honest, I don’t think either one of the teams we faced last week, we couldn’t come back from and beat with a full bench. That’s reassuring to see how far we’ve come. We’re getting better because our younger guys are on the field and so we’re building our depth.”

For those wondering where the old Normative Services facility is, it’s on West Loucks Street on the left, past the golf course.

As for the Sheridan Lady Mavericks, they will play in Helena, Montana on Saturday, at 12-noon vs. Missoula and at 3pm vs. Bozeman.

There will be a few other Montana boys lacrosse teams in Sheridan as well.

On Friday (April 18th) at 7pm Billings and Bozeman will play at Dan Madia Field located on West 11th Street.

On Saturday, several games will be played at both the old NSI facility and at Blacktooth Park, located on West 5th Street.

Between 12:30 and 2:30pm, the Montana State club team will be conducting a free youth clinic at the old NSI field.

At 4pm tomorrow, it’s club level college lacrosse between Montana State and the University of Wyoming.
