Sheridan HS Softball: Playing in their home debut yesterday, the Sheridan High School softball team did not disappoint the crowd in game 1 of their double-header vs. Campbell County, and saved the best for the end.

Trailing 7-zip in the 3rd inning, the Lady Broncs would rally, tie the score, fall behind, tie the score again, force extra innings, and then in the bottom of the 9th, junior Bailey Howe of Buffalo hit a walk-off 2-run home run over the left field fence, to give Sheridan a 12-11 win.

Howe says she wasn’t trying to swing for the fence, and even though Buffalo to Sheridan is a half hour drive everyday for practice and home games, she’s grateful they let her have a chance.

Incidentally in that first game, the Lady Broncs hit 3 home runs, all of them by non-Sheridan High School players.

As mentioned, Howe goes to Buffalo, so does Isabell Kerckaert who had a 3-run shot, and then Emerson Kelley who attends Big Horn, hit a 2-run blast of her own.

The first game of the double-header is the one that mattered, because that was the one that counts in the northeast quadrant standings.

In Game 2, Campbell County got a measure of payback as they clobbered the Lady Broncs 16-4.

Sheridan is back in action today with another quadrant double-header game at Thunder Basin, beginning at 4 and 6pm.

The next home game is scheduled for Tuesday, April 1st vs. Cody.

Sheridan/Johnson County HS Outdoor Track and Field: The season starts this weekend for all Sheridan County teams as well as Buffalo.

Sheridan will host a 4-team meet today beginning at 1pm.

Other teams participating will be the Bison as well as both Gillette teams.

Tongue River will compete today at Burlington, while Arvada-Clearmont was at the Newcastle Invitational yesterday.

Sheridan/Buffalo HS Soccer: 4A East Conference play starts today for the Sheridan teams.

Today the boys and girls play Cheyenne South at 6pm and tomorrow they will take on Laramie at 12-noon.

The girls games will be played at home, while the boys are on the road.

Because of the track and field meet at Sheridan, today’s girls soccer games will be played at Big Horn.

You can see a LIVE video stream of both of this weekend’s girls games at sheridanmedia.com and on the Sheridan Media Facebook page.

Buffalo starts 3A East conference play tomorrow at home vs. Torrington.

Sheridan HS Wrestling: All the spring sports teams will be a little shorthanded this weekend, because those that wrestled in the winter, will try to become national champions and All-Americans.

Today, tomorrow and Sunday is the National High School Coaches Association Folkstyle Wrestling National Championship Tournament in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Wrestlers must finish in the top 8 of their respective brackets to earn All-American status.

The boys compete against their own grade level (freshmen vs. freshmen, sophomores vs. sophomores, etc…), while grade level is irrelevant for the girls, because there’s not as many competitors.

Becca Oetken of Sheridan will try to become a 2-time All-American on the girls side.

Kelten Crow, Braxten Crow and Keegan Rager will all compete for the Sheridan boys.

Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche won last night at home vs. LA 4-zip.

The Avs next play tomorrow at home vs. St. Louis.

Colorado Rockies Baseball: Today is opening day for the Colorado Rockies as they start a 3-game series at Tampa Bay.

First pitch today is scheduled for 2:10pm.

Tomorrow’s game starts at the same time and Sunday’s game begins at 11:40am.

All 3 games will be played at the New York Yankees spring training site in Tampa, because Tropicana Field was damaged back in September by Hurricane Milton.
