A multi-sport Lady Bronc has made her choice on which sport she wants to continue in at the next level.

Lilyahna Hancock, who is also a swimmer, has signed a written offer of athletic aid to compete in women’s wrestling at Dickinson State University in North Dakota.

She just recently completed her second season on the mat, and placed 5th in the 130 pound weight bracket at the state meet.

Hancock wrestled in her junior and senior years of high school and says one of her biggest regrets was not participating in the sport in her sophomore year, when girls wrestling was in its first year as a sanctioned varsity sport.

She adds she’s been swimming since she was 8 years old and explains why wrestling won out.

“I really just found my love for wrestling over the last 2 years. It’s something that I want to keep growing in. I feel like my time in the pool is over and I really enjoy the time that I had in the pool, but I still have a lot to learn on the mat and I want to continue to learn and get better through Dickinson. It kind of makes me a better person. I feel like I’m able to kind of let out any emotions or feelings that I’m having on the mat and then to come off the mat and be a better person and I’ve just learned a lot of life skills just from wrestling.”

Hancock says she plans to major in biology.

The Lady Blue Hawks wrestling team recently completed their 2nd season and had 4 athletes compete in the NAIA tournament, with one of them winning a national championship.
