The second half of the season for the Sheridan Hawks is underway, but a problem from the first half is still hanging around.
Sheridan split home games this past weekend vs. Butte, winning 12-3 and losing 7-5.
Head Coach J.J. Santagata says the team is still having a few consistency issues.
“We’ve preached it from the beginning that you can’t lose games that you’re supposed to win and Saturday’s game, when we come out and we win 12-3, we knew that they (Butte) were going to come out with a little bit more jump in their step and a little bit more fire in their gut and just inconsistency has killed us all year. Just playing good some periods, bad the next period, good in some games, bad the next game and we have a stretch right now that we can’t do that, so hopefully guys take the message of we have no days to waste and they just come out and ready to go this weekend.”
The difference in Saturday’s loss was that Sheridan gave up 2 short-handed goals.
Santagata adds when the Hawks are on a power play, some guys are trying too hard to make something happen.
“Our power play is definitely one of our strong suits this season, so we have guys that are all veteran guys on that power play. Guys trying to do too much, guys out of position, guys out of place and guys just holding onto the puck too long, so don’t ever do that again and like I said to our guys is, it’s just something that we just mentally need to be a little bit better with. We have to know where we’re at on the ice, have better awareness and just move the puck quicker and just not try to do too much on the ice.”
Sheridan resumes their homestand this weekend with 2 games vs. Gillette.
The puck drops on both Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm.
