Sheridan County HS Basketball: Competition on the high school basketball court resumes this week, now that the 2-week winter break is over.
Sheridan will play this coming Thursday thru Saturday at the Cheyenne Invitational.
On Thursday, the Broncs and Lady Broncs will take on 3A Wheatland beginning at 3:30pm.
Those games will be played at Cheyenne South.
On Friday, Sheridan will head to Cheyenne East to play Riverton, starting at 3pm.
On Saturday, it’s back to Cheyenne South to play Rock Springs starting at 9am.
The Tongue River and Big Horn boys basketball teams will play on Friday and Saturday vs. opponents to be announced.
Games will be played at either Wright and/or at Sundance.
The TR and BH girls will play their games at Thermopolis and/or at Shoshoni.
Arvada-Clearmont will start 1A Northeast quadrant play on Saturday at Casper Christian.
Sheridan County HS Wrestling: There was some girls competition this past weekend.
The Sheridan Lady Broncs placed 9th out of 34 teams at Bozeman, Montana.
Eva Anderson was runner-up at 155 pounds and Becca Oetken was 1st at 235 pounds.
Both the Sheridan girls and boys as well as the Tongue River girls and boys are scheduled to compete this weekend at the Shane Shatto Memorial in Douglas on Friday and Saturday.
Sheridan HS Boys Swimming and Diving: Sheridan will host their pre-invite on Friday and then Saturday it’s the Sheridan Invitational at the Junior High School pool.
Start time Friday is scheduled for 4pm and Saturday’s time is at 9am.
Sheridan HS Nordic Ski: Sheridan was at the Pinedale Invitational this past weekend.
On the girls side, Katie Alicke placed first in Friday’s race and was 2nd on Saturday.
This weekend, Sheridan will host its first ever Nordic Ski meet on Cutler Hill.
Friday’s start time is scheduled for 1pm and Saturday’s start time is at 10am.
Sheridan County HS Indoor Track and Field: Practice starts today for the 2025 season.
Competition for the Sheridan County High School teams starts on Saturday, January 18th.
Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey: The Sheridan Hawks split weekend home games vs. Butte this past weekend.
Sheridan won Friday’s game 12-2, but dropped Saturday’s game 7-5.
Josh Serino had himself a great weekend.
On Friday, he had 1 goal and 5 assists, and had a hat trick in Saturday’s game.
Vincent Leaf had a hat trick himself in Friday’s game.
The Hawks are back in action this coming Friday and Saturday at home against Gillette.
The puck drops on both nights at 7:30pm.
University of Wyoming Cowboy Basketball: The Wyoming Cowboys played without their leading scorer Obi Agbim, but managed to win this past Saturday at Air Force 70-65.
The Pokes shot 57% from the field, and needed everyone, because the Falcons shot 56%.
The difference in the game was that Air Force could not make their free throws, as they were only 5 of 13 from the line.
Kobe Newton led the Brown and Gold with 16 points, while Dontaie Allen provided 14 off of the bench.
Matija Belic contributed 13 and Jordan Nesbitt had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
UW is now 9-6 on the season and have a 2-2 record in the Mountain West Conference.
The team is back in action tomorrow as they host conference co-leader New Mexico, starting at 8pm.
As for the Wyoming Cowgirls, they were also victorious on the road in conference play as the team defeated Fresno State 68-59.
The ladies shot 51% and kept the Lady Bulldogs from getting to the free throw line.
Fresno State was only 2 of 2 from the charity stripe.
Tess Barnes led the Cowgirls with 24 points, while Allyson Fertig put in 21.
UW is now 8-6 overall on the season and have a 2-0 record in the conference.
The Brown and Gold next play on Wednesday at New Mexico.
College Football: Today is the football championship sub-division national championship game, and a couple of former Sheridan High School Broncs could get a little playing time.
Current sophomore Brock Steel and redshirt freshman Colson Coon play for the undefeated Montana State Bobcats.
They will take on North Dakota State in Frisco, Texas which is just north of Dallas.
Kickoff is scheduled for 5pm.
Denver Broncos Football: For the first time in 9 years, the Denver Broncos are in the playoffs.
Denver shutout the visiting Kansas City Chiefs yesterday 34-zip, although Kansas City rested most of their starters, because they already had the AFC #1 seed locked up.
For the Broncos, rookie quarterback Bo Nix had himself a game as he was 26 of 29 passing for 321 yards and 4 touchdowns.
He also set a team record with an 89.7% completion rate, and set a new team record of most completions to start a game with 18.
Catching the TD’s were Courtland Sutton, Devaughn Wade and Marvin Mims Junior caught the other 2.
Audric Estime ran for 1 score and the defense delivered 5 sacks.
Denver was also 10 of 14 on 3rd down conversions.
The Broncos will head to Buffalo for the first round of the playoffs.
Kickoff on Sunday is scheduled for 11am.
If Denver wins, then they would travel to Kansas City to play the Chiefs for a 3rd time.
Denver Nuggets Basketball: The Denver Nuggets split a home-and-home series vs. San Antonio this past weekend, with the visiting team winning each game.
Denver lost at home on Friday 113-110, and won on Saturday on the road by a score of 122-111.
The Nuggets next play tomorrow at home against the defending NBA champ Boston Celtics.
Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche lost on Saturday at home vs. Montreal 2-1, losing via shootout 2-nothing.
The Avs next play today as they host defending Stanley Cup champion, Florida, starting at 7pm.
