Sheridan County HS Sports: Winter break continues for the Sheridan County Schools this week, and while most teams are practicing, a few teams will see competition this coming weekend.

The Sheridan Girls Wrestling team will be at a tournament on Friday and Saturday at Bozeman, Montana.

The Boys wrestling team won’t be back in action until the following weekend.

The Sheridan Nordic Ski Team will compete at a meet this Friday and Saturday at Pinedale.

Next weekend, on Friday and Saturday, January 10th and 11th, the Broncs and Lady Broncs will host their first ever home meet on Cutler Hill, near Sibley Lake in the Bighorn Mountains.

All other winter sports at Sheridan, as well as Big Horn, Tongue River and Arvada-Clearmont will resume competition on the weekend of January 9th, 10th and 11th.

Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey: The Sheridan Hawks are back in action this coming weekend.

The team has been off since playing in the NA3HL Showcase Event in Minnesota 2 weeks ago, and practice resumes today.

Sheridan has 18 games remaining on the regular season schedule and the next 10 of them are all at home, with one off weekend in the mix.

The Hawks don’t have to hit the road again until February 14th and 15th and the team does not have any more road games in Montana, until the postseason.

Sheridan hosts Butte this Friday and Saturday.

The puck drops on both nights at 7:30pm.

University of Wyoming Basketball: The Wyoming Cowboys were victorious in Mountain West Conference play this past Saturday at home against Nevada 68-65.

The Pokes shot nearly 49% for the game and the big difference was that the team was 11 of 21 on their 3 point tries.

The bench also showed up by outscoring the Wolfpack 30-12.

Obi Agbim led all scorers with 18 points, while Touko Tainamo scored 15 off the bench.

UW is now 8-5 on the season, with a 1-1 record in the Mountain West Conference.

The team plays again tomorrow at home vs. Boise State.

Tip off is scheduled for 6:30pm.

The Wyoming Cowgirls start conference play on Wednesday at home vs. Utah State, beginning at 2pm.

Mountain West Conference Football: Colorado State did not make the conference look good on Saturday as the team lost in the Arizona Bowl against Miami of Ohio, 43-17.

The conference is now 1-3 in the post-season.

Boise State plays tomorrow in the Fiesta Bowl vs. Penn State.

Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30pm.

Denver Broncos Football: The Denver Broncos scored late in regulation in Saturday’s game at Cincinnati to force overtime, but then the offense had 2 3 and out possessions after that, and the Bengals scored with a little more than 1 minute remaining, to stop Denver from clinching a playoff spot.

Final score was 30-24.

Bo Nix was 24 of 31 passing for 219 yards with 3 touchdowns and 1 interception.

Catching the TD’s were Courtland Sutton, and Marvin Mims Junior caught the other 2.

He had 103 yards receiving in the game.

The defense came up with 7 sacks.

Despite losing their last 2 games, the Broncos still control their own playoff fate.

All the team has to do is win their regular season finale this Sunday at home vs. Kansas City.

Kickoff is scheduled for 2:25pm.

If they lose, the team needs help to back their way into the final AFC wildcard spot.

Denver would need Cincinnati to lose Saturday at Pittsburgh, and would need Miami to lose on Sunday at the New York Jets.

If the Broncos make the playoffs, the team would be the #7 seed, because they lose head-to-head tie-breakers vs. the other wild card teams, and would travel to Buffalo in the first round.

Kansas City and the Bills have already locked down the top 2 seeds for the AFC playoffs.

Meanwhile, Indianapolis was officially eliminated from playoff contention, when they lost yesterday to the New York Giants.

Denver Nuggets Basketball: The Denver Nuggets split home games this past weekend.

The team lost on Friday at home vs. Cleveland 149-135, then recovered to beat Detroit on Saturday 134-121.

The Nuggets next play today at Utah.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7pm.

Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche won on Friday at Utah 4-1.

The Avs next play tomorrow at home vs. Winnipeg.
