Sheridan HS Football Practice Starts: Fall technically doesn’t start for another 1 ½ months, but the boys of fall are ready to go now!

Today marks the start of practice for the Sheridan High School Bronc Football team, as well as all other 4A Football schools.

Players can not put on the pads until Thursday.

The team will start the 2024 season as the 3-time defending 4A state champs, and are currently riding a 31-game winning streak.

The state record is 34.

Laramie set that mark from 1959 to 1963.

The Broncs have the 5-home, 4-away schedule this season and are scheduled to play their first game on Friday, August 30th at home vs. Cheyenne South.

As far as which teams Sheridan will play this season, nothing has changed from past years’.

What did change was the order of the opponents each team will face, plus some head-to-head matchups have been reversed.

What this means is in some cases, if Team A visited team B last year, Team A may visit Team B again for the second year in a row.

Every 2 years, the Wyoming High School Activities Association, which is in charge of making the football schedules, likes to stir the pot and change things around.

This season, the pot has been stirred.

Of the 9 opponents that Sheridan will face this year, 6 of those 9 opponents have been reversed.

There are 3 teams that the Broncs traveled to last year and will travel to again this year, and in turn, there are 3 teams that visited Sheridan last year, and will visit again this year.

The 3 repeat road trips will be Thunder Basin, Cheyenne Central and Laramie.

The 3 teams that Sheridan will play at home again this year will be Cheyenne South, Kelly Walsh and Rock Springs.

All other classes of football can start practice one week from today.

That includes Big Horn and Tongue River.

Golf and Tennis Practice Start: 4A Football is not the only sport that can start practice today.

Tennis as well as all classes of golf can start as well.

Competition in golf can start as early as this coming Wednesday.

Sheridan is scheduled to compete this Wednesday and Thursday at Powell.

The Lady Broncs are the defending 4A State Champs, and have won 2 of the last 3.

Tennis can start competition as early as this coming Saturday.

Sheridan will take part in a Jamboree on Saturday in Casper.

The home opener is one week from today vs. both Cheyenne East and Cheyenne Central.

As for volleyball, cross country and girls swimming, practice starts one week from today.

Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies won 2 out of 3 games at home vs. Atlanta this past weekend.

On Friday, the Rocks won 6-5.

Brenton Doyle contributed with a 2-run home run.

Saturday’s game was a slugfest, and the Braves would prevail 11-8.

Sam Hilliard had a 3-run home run in that game, but it was not enough.

Yesterday, Colorado was down 8-2 going into the bottom of the 8th inning, then hung up a 7-spot on the scoreboard and ended up winning 9-8.

Jake Cave’s 2-run blast was what started the comeback.

Today the Rockies start a 3-game series at Arizona.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:40pm.

Denver Broncos Pre-Season Football: The Denver Broncos won their exhibition season opener yesterday at Indianapolis 34-30.

The quarterback competition is interesting so far.

First round draft pick Bo Nix out of Oregon was 15 of 21 passing for 125 yards and threw 1 touchdown.

Zach Wilson was 10 of 13 passing for 117 yards.

Marvin Mims Junior caught the 1 TD.

Rushing touchdowns were scored by Audric Estime (ess-ti-meh), Tyler Badie (bad-ee) and Blake Watson.

Will Lutz kicked 2 field goals and was 4 for 4 on extra point tries.

The opposition scored with 4:15 to go, to make the score 34-30, but then the Broncos were able to run out the clock from there, which included converting on 4th and 1 from the Indy 7 yard line to seal the win.

Denver’s next exhibition game is this coming Sunday night at home vs. Green Bay.
