Sheridan HS Softball: The new school year officially started back on July 1st, classes start about one month from now, give or take a few days, and fall sports practice starts as early as August 12th, depending on the sport.

When the school year ends in June of next year, Sheridan High School will have completed its first season in a new sport.

The Lady Bronc softball team will make its competition debut in March at the start of the spring sports season.

This past October, the Sheridan County School District #2 Board of Trustees approved the formation of a varsity team and the sport has been a statewide varsity sanctioned event, since its start back in 2021.

Sheridan High School Activities Director Kasey Garnhart says the season is still about 8 months down the road, but the excitement is starting to build.

Garnhart adds it’s not a done deal, but it’s looking like home games will be played at the Sheridan College softball fields.

Sheridan won’t be the only new team in Wyoming when the season starts.

Jackson and Torrington will join in as well, meaning there will be 16 varsity teams in the state.

In the past teams were split up into an East and West format, but starting this season, it will be North and South.

Practice can start on March 10th and the first game can be played as early as March 20th.

Sheridan Troopers/Jets/Cavalry Legion Baseball: The Wyoming AA State Bracket which starts Monday at Casper, should be released sometime today.

Some ties in the standings have to be broken, to determine seeding.

Yesterday, Casper and Cheyenne split their double-header vs. each other, and Laramie swept their DH at Rock Springs, meaning there are 2 ties.

Between the Oilers and Post 6, one team will get the #1 seed and the other will be #2.

Laramie and the Cheyenne Hawks are tied for the #5 and #6 seeds and the 2 teams split their head-to-head conference games vs. each other.

That tie-breaker is of great interest to Sheridan, because the team that comes out ahead of the tie, will be the Troopers’ first round opponent.

Meanwhile the Sheridan Jets will play in the A-League State Tournament beginning Saturday at Powell.

The team will take on Cody in the first round, starting at 10am.

The Sheridan Cavalry will play in the B State Tournament beginning tomorrow at Torrington.

The team will take on Riverton in the first round, starting at 1pm.

Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies managed 6 hits last night, but it ended up doing no good as the team was shut out at home vs. Boston 6-zip.

The rubber game of the 3-game series is today starting at 1:10pm.

The Rocks are off tomorrow, and then start a 10-game road trip on Friday with 4 games at San Francisco, followed by 3 at the LA Angels and 3 at San Diego.
