Sheridan County HS Track and Field: The Sheridan High School Boys and Girls Track and Field teams both won the 4A State Championship this past weekend.

For the boys it’s their 3rd state championship in 4 years, and for the girls it’s only their 2nd state state championship in school history.

The other was back in 1983.

Coach Taylor Kelting says one thing that helped both teams this year was the weather.

Last year, conditions were so bad, the teams had to spend the first half of last year’s outdoor track and field season practicing indoors.

That was not the case this year, in fact, during the indoor season, the teams were able to get in a lot of outdoor practice.

Track and field athletes that finished in the top 2 of an individual event, automatically get all-state honors.

The exception to the rule is for relay races, which is winning team only.

By our count that means 9 athletes from Sheridan, 4 from Big Horn and 4 from Tongue River each won the honor.

Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball: The Sheridan Troopers will be back in action Saturday, Sunday and Monday at a round robin tournament at Gillette.

On Saturday, they play Bozeman, Montana at 9:30am.

On Sunday, games are against Jackson at 12-noon, and against Scottsbluff, Nebraska at 2:30pm.

On Monday, which is Memorial Day, the Troopers will play Powell at 2:30pm and conclude against the Roughriders at 5pm.

The next home game isn’t until June 4th.

Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies were off yesterday, and will begin a 3-game series today at Oakland starting at 7:40pm.

The Rocks return home this Friday, to start a 6-game homestand.

They’ll play 3 vs. Philadelphia, and 3 vs. Cleveland.

NHL Playoffs: Last night Edmonton scored 3 goals in the second period and held on to win Game 7 at Vancouver 3-2, and win their second round best of 7 series 4-3.

The Oilers advance to the Western Conference Finals and will play Game 1 at Dallas on Thursday.
