The Montana High School Lacrosse Association State Championship Tournament, will be played in Helena, MT on Saturday and Sunday, May 18th and 19th.

The Sheridan Mavericks are 8-3 on the season and have the #3 seed in the Division 2 bracket.

Up first is rematch vs. Cody on Saturday at 11am.

The Warriors beat the Mavericks at Sheridan about one month ago.

Depending on how the bracket shakes down, it’s possible that Sheridan may have to go through all 3 teams that beat them this season (Cody, Great Falls, Bozeman White).

Coach JR Wright says he’s fine with a mini-revenge tour and even though the season is only about 1 ½ months long, the Mavs have come together, particularly with their midfield game.

Honestly the seeding couldn’t have worked out better for us, I think. We’re ready to take on Cody again. We’d love another stab at them and I think it only make sense that if we’re going to make a run at a ‘ship, we got to go through the only teams that did beat us this year so, we’ve really gelled together in terms of our midfield lines. We’ve really figured out how we mix the 13 midfielders that we have on this team together, to keep them balanced out and so as we go through our 3 midfield lines, sometimes 4, depending upon how we’re running our attack line and defense too, we’ve really had those guys gel together, so that they’re playing together as a unit, and when they sub on together in their shifts.”

The #2 seed Lady Mavericks are 9-3 on the season and will play Billings in the semi-finals on Saturday at 11am.

The championship and 3rd place games will be held on Sunday.

Emily Walton is a senior from Sheridan High School.

She says it’s a small 4-team bracket and the Lady Mavericks are taking on the same teams that they’ve already faced 3 times already, but that should make for some interesting competition the 4th time around.

I think it’s going to be really competitive. I think not only do we want to beat these teams, but these teams want to beat us, but overall, we’re all really competitive, so I can expect it to be just that, and so I think we’re going to work really hard and they’re going to work really hard, and it’s going to be probably some of our best games that we’ve played.”
