Two Sheridan High School Girls Wrestlers have made history, by becoming the first to make their college decisions, where they will continue to compete in the sport they enjoy.

Paityn Covolo and Jada Bohm have both signed their National Letters of Intent (NLI) to wrestle at Iowa Western Community College.

Covolo is this year’s Wyoming State Champ at 135 pounds.

She started wrestling in 5th grade, but did not compete in her freshman and sophomore years in high school.

Povolo adds when the varsity wrestling program started at Sheridan HS, it re-lit her spark to compete, and although college wrestling is a different style than what she’s used to (freestyle vs. folkstyle), she’s willing to continue to compete.

“I haven’t actually won a freestyle match, but I still go out there and I try and I think that there’s probably something they saw in me that no matter what, I’ll still go out there and I’ll try my best, even if I’m not winning all the time.”

Povolo adds she is considering majoring in criminal justice.

Bohm was the East Regional Runner-up and placed 6th at this year’s state wrestling meet at the 235 pound weight class.

She says she started competition in her junior year of high school and caught on quickly.

“I picked up on it really quickly and my coaches always told me that I was really good at it and it was just something that I really enjoyed and I didn’t want to end it, so I decided to pursue it and go to college for it. I get the adrenaline rush the flow and feeling of being excited and nervous and it’s just a great feeling to know I’m able to do this, I can compete and even though I’m nervous, I’m still go out there and try my best.”

Bohm adds she is considering majoring in business.

Iowa Western CC is located in Council Bluffs, which is located on the other side of the Iowa-Nebraska border from Omaha.

The Lady Reiver wrestling program recently completed its third season of competition.
