Sheridan College Bull Rider Wyatt Phelps Qualifies For 2024 College National Final Rodeo

The fourth best collegiate bull rider last year, has a chance to do better this year at the College National Finals Rodeo.

Wyatt Phelps of Sheridan College finished 2nd in the final Central Rocky Mountain Region Rodeo standings for the 2023-2024 season, and earned himself entry into the 2024 CNFR, which will take place June 9th-15th at Casper.

The top 3 in the overall standings in each rodeo event, at the end of the season qualify for the CNFR.

Throughout the season, cowboys and cowgirls earn points based on which place they finish in at each of the 10 rodeos during the season.

The season concluded this past weekend at the University of Wyoming.

At the UW rodeo, Davis Otto placed 6th at the event in bareback riding, thanks to a 63 point ride in the final round.

In the saddle bronc riding, TW Flowers scored 80 points on his first ride, taking first place.

Teammates Clancy Glenn and Chris Nelson had scores of 76 and 75, respectively.  

In the final round, Glenn scored 83 points earning him first place in the round and the average.

He would 6th in the final standings.

Flowers and Nelson bucked off their in the second round, but Flowers ended the rodeo seventh in the saddle bronc average and Nelson was ninth.

Sheridan College cowgirl Faith Heim led the way all weekend in the barrel racing.

The fastest time of the weekend, 14.44 seconds, won first place in the first round.

Winning first in the second round secured a first place average win for Heim as well.

Heim made a late season charge in the CRM region standings, but came up short and finished in 5th place for the season.

Teammate Maci DeHaan tied for eighth place in the first round, and ran a 14.54 second time in the second round, placing second in the round and fourth overall.

Goat tyer Josie Johnson tied for fourth place in the first round with a 7.2 second time.

In the end of the season team standings, Sheridan College’s Men’s Team ended the year in tenth place overall and the women ended up sixth place overall.
