Sheridan Lacrosse: It may be a short season that only runs for about 1 ½ months, but this year the Sheridan Mavericks boys lacrosse team is making the most of it so far.
Playing this past weekend in Helena, the boys defeated the host team 14-2, and also defeated Kalispell 10-8 to move to 4-0 on the season.
The Mavericks play in the Montana High School LaCrosse Association at the Division 2 level with 9 other teams.
Every team has to play each other once, but because the teams are so spread out and the season is so short, it’s not economically feasible for every team to travel to every other team in the division.
A group of teams will gather in one location for a weekend, and they will have to play some division opponents at a neutral site.
This weekend is Sheridan’s turn to host, as they will take on Cody on Friday at 7pm at the old Normative Services Field, now referred to as Mavericks Stadium.
On Saturday, they’ll take on Helena for a 2nd time, beginning at 1pm.
Coach JR Wright says so far the team has been coming together quite nicely, and players hope to put on a good showing in front of the hometown crowd this weekend.
As for the Sheridan Lady Mavericks, they won 2 out of 3 games this past weekend in Billings, and their record is now 3-2 on the season.
On Saturday, they beat Cheyenne 10-4, but lost vs. Helena 8-7.
On Sunday, the Lady Mavericks defeated the host team 9-8 in overtime.
According to their schedule, the team is off this weekend from competition and they’ll be back in action next weekend at Missoula.
Their lone weekend of home games isn’t until May 11th.
Sheridan HS Soccer: Sheridan starts their 2nd run through the 4A East this weekend as they take on Laramie on Friday and Cheyenne South on Saturday.
The boys will play on the road, and the girls are at home.
Because of a track and field meet going on Saturday, the game will be played at Big Horn.
Sheridan County HS Track and Field: Sheridan is scheduled to host the Dan Hansen Invitational on Saturday.
Big Horn, Tongue River and Arvada-Clearmont are also scheduled to be in attendance.
Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball: The Sheridan Troopers are scheduled to be back in action this weekend, after having last weekend off.
The team will play 2 on Saturday at Rapid City Post 22 and one more on Sunday.
The Troopers next home games are on Saturday and Sunday, April 27th and 28th.
University of Wyoming Spring Football Practice: The Wyoming Cowboys have 5 more practices to go in their spring season.
This past Saturday was their second practice that was open to the public and it ended up being a scrimmage.
No touchdowns were scored, the team worked on 2-minute and 4-minute scenarios, and most of the plays took place outside of the red zone.
Coach Jay Sawvel comments on what we saw as far as quarterback play was concerned.
UW practices tomorrow and Saturday, and then next week on Tuesday and Thursday.
Next Saturday will be the spring game which will be played at Cheyenne.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies were shut out last night at Philadelphia 5-zip, to fall to 4-14 on the season.
The 2 teams will conclude the 3-game series today at 4:05pm.
The Rocks are off tomorrow and will return home on Friday to start a 7-game home stand, starting with 3 against Seattle, followed by 4 vs. San Diego.
Denver Nuggets Basketball: The Denver Nuggets now know which team they will play in the first round of the NBA playoffs.
Last night the LA Lakers won at New Orleans 110-106, to set up a rematch of last year’s Western Conference Finals.
Game 1 of the best of 7 series is scheduled for Saturday beginning at 6:30pm and game 2 is scheduled for Monday.
