Sheridan HS Outdoor Track and Field and Soccer Weekend Schedule: The Wyoming High School Spring Sports season begins tomorrow, with a couple of changes to the schedule for the Sheridan teams.
Tomorrow’s outdoor track and field meet that was scheduled to take place at Buffalo, has been moved to Sheridan and will start at 2:30pm.
There are no changes to tomorrow’s soccer schedule.
Both the Sheridan boys and girls will play at Worland, beginning at 3 and 5pm respectively.
On Saturday, the Lady Broncs will play at Buffalo starting at 12-noon.
The change on Saturday is to the start time of the boys soccer game at home vs. the Bison.
The game now starts at 11am instead of 12-noon.
Sheridan HS Girls Soccer: It will be a season of new beginnings for the Sheridan girls.
New at helm is Coach Josh Dube who will lead a team that only lost 4 seniors to graduation and have a pretty good crop of underclassmen coming in.
He says the trick for this season could be finding those players to step up and take that shot during a game, but he has a few ideas that he thinks will work.
Last year the Sheridan girls had a record of 7-12 on the season and qualified for the state tournament.
Sheridan HS Girls Basketball: The 4A State Championship game did not get off to a good start, as the Lady Broncs found themselves trailing 14-3 late in the first quarter.
Freshman Mesa Hanft explains what went wrong and how the team was able to right the ship.
Sheridan responded with a 23-4 run from late 1st quarter and through most of the 2nd quarter.
Coach Ryan Sullivan explains how the team made sure they did not suffer a big let down after halftime.
Campbell County would cut the deficit to 3 in the 3rd quarter, but got no closer.
University of Wyoming Basketball/Mountain West Conference Tournament: Just like the women’s team the other day, the University of Wyoming men’s team went cold shooting wise in the late stages of their game, and lost to Fresno State 77-73, in the first round of the Mountain West Conference tournament yesterday afternoon.
The Pokes were up 72-65 with 3:20 to go, but then the Bulldogs would close out the Cowboys with a 12-1 run.
One big difference stats wise was bench scoring.
Fresno State won that battle 26-7.
For the Pokes, Akuel Kot led all scorers with 23 points.
Sam Griffin put in 19 and Brendan Wenzel added in 15.
Wyoming finishes the season with a record of 15-17, which is an improvement from their 9-22 record last year, but not good enough to play in any post-season tournament.
As for the rest of yesterday’s first round of the Mountain West Conference Men’s Tournament, Colorado State beat San Jose State 72-62, and New Mexico beat Air Force 82-56.
Today’s second round schedule has Fresno State vs. Utah State at 1pm, San Diego State vs. UNLV at 3:30pm, Colorado State vs. Nevada at 7pm, and New Mexico vs. Boise State at 9:30pm.
Last night in the championship game of the Mountain West Conference women’s basketball tournament, UNLV would 3-peat as tournament champs, by beating San Diego State 66-49.
The Wyoming Cowgirls are 16-14 on the season, and are waiting to see if they will get an invite to some sort of post-season tournament.
They should know by Monday at the latest.
Colorado Rockies Pre-Season Baseball: The Colorado Rockies won yesterday at Arizona 7-5.
Benny Montgomery hit a solo home run in the 9th inning to provide some insurance.
Colorado plays today at Cleveland beginning at 2:05pm.
Denver Nuggets Basketball: The Denver Nuggets won last night at Miami 100-88.
The win moves them back into 1st place in not just the northwest division, but in the west conference as well, with 1 month to go in the regular season.
The Nuggets next play tomorrow at San Antonio.
Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche came back from a 3-0 deficit last night, to win in overtime at Vancouver 4-3.
Colorado needed 30 seconds of overtime to score the winning goal.
The Avs next play Saturday at Edmonton.
